This Thursday the 24th of January, the Altos de Chavón Foundation invites you to the opening of “2Aquiles” in the Altos de Chavón art gallery, to be held at 7pm.
The exhibit, whose complete name is “2Aquiles Sinergia Enérgica” or in english “2Aquiles Energetic Synergy” is being presented by father and son; Aquiles Azar García and Aquiles Azar Billini, and will be the first collaborative work between the 2 artists.
The exhibit consists of a collection of oil paintings; mixed media on canvas and paper, in large and medium formats, on which both artists, father and son intertwine their personal styles and techniques.
Following the opening cocktail we recommend you plan to stay in Altos de Chavón – and head to Gino’s for dinner, where, from 8pm they will have live music with guitarist Jeff Fleitman.
Aquiles Azar García – father
Aquiles Azar García is a devoted teacher of Dominican art born in 1932 who has transcended through versatility the genre of drawing and painting styles, for which he has obtained important awards in the country. He was a disciple of George Hausford, a teacher at the National School of Fine Arts, where he earned his degree as a painter and draftsman. Since 1960, he has exhibited continuously, with well over 100 individual and group exhibitions between, highlighting among others, those presented in museums and cultural centers in the Dominican Republic, Japan, London, Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Greece, Brussels, Venezuela, Ecuador and the Balearic Islands.
Aquiles Azar Billini – son
Aquiles Azar Billini is a Dominican painter who graduated from the well known Altos de Chavon School of Design in 1988. As the son of Master Aquiles Azar García he has been recognized by renown art critics and curators both nationally and abroad for the technical and conceptual quality of his paintings, He has been awarded numerous prizes in biennials and art contests, including among them, the First Prize at the XIII Drawing Art Contest E. Leon Jimenes in 1990, Third prize in the National Drawing in 1993, First Prize for Painting at the IX Biennial of Visual Arts in 1994 and the Award of Photography at the XXIII National Visual Arts Biennial.
