On Thursday September 13th 2012, the Altos de Chavón art gallery invites you to celebrate the opening of their next art exhibit “100 tiles cerámicos” (100 ceramic tiles), presented by Cuban artist, Wilfredo Torres.
In celebration of the opening of the new exhibit, the Altos de Chavón art gallery and Wilfredo Torres are hosting an inauguration cocktail from 7:30pm on Thursday the 13th of September and you are cordially invited to join fellow art lovers and members of the Casa de Campo, La Romana and Altos de Chavón community for a few drinks, whilst we admire the collective ceramic works of Wilfredo Torres.
A Cuban artist living in the Dominican Republic, Wilfredo describes his art as “essentially Cuban“, but admits that he has over the years been influenced by his life in the Dominican Republic, saying “it is not difficult to find elements of Dominican identity in my work“. A ceramics artist, Wilfredo is perhaps most well-known for his sculptures which have been exhibited across the world from the US to Europe and Japan, however this exhibit will be his first without sculptures – including only his drawings and paintings on ceramic tiles – 100 ceramic tiles to be exact.
“Drawing is the the starting point of everything I can think of. In this sample (“100 tiles cerámicos”), I cannot hide the influence of Cuban artists of the 60’s, a singular language that today is admired around the world.”
