WAO Gallery & Cultural Center, located in Altos de Chavón, will inaugurate the “NEITHER HERE NOR THERE” exhibition by Dominican artist Ana Sofía Batlle on Friday, April 28th. This exhibition aims to convey the transition and constant change sensation, portraying figures called “bodyscape” in an intermediate state between what they are and will be.

“NEITHER HERE NOR THERE”

Ana Sofía’s work expresses her fascination with human beings and their relationship with nature. Through her abstract paintings using oil, acrylic, wash, and ink techniques, she seeks to explore the complex forms that reflect human individuality and connection with the world around them, using layers of colors and textures to create depth and complexity, much like how we combine both collectively and individually. Her works exude the joy of painting, a common phenomenon in young artists.

These figures represent the union of one and multiple elements, exploring the relationship between individuality and collectivity. The exhibition consists of 14 pieces that capture the feeling of being trapped in one place, even as one seeks to move forward into different stages of life.

The exhibition will be open from April 28th to May 22nd, 2023, from Wednesday to Saturday from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, Sundays and Tuesdays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and closed on Mondays.

Sustainable Initiatives with Social Impact

The Patronato Benéfico Oriental, Inc. (PBO) continues its commitment to sustainable initiatives with social impact to promote culture. As such, it has complemented its programs with the initiatives of WAO Chavón, which include WAO Innovation HUB, WAO Gallery & Cultural Center, and the Altos de Chavón Regional Archaeological Museum in Altos de Chavón.

The income from the different projects and activities is directed towards our social programs so that we can replicate these initiatives in the vulnerable communities we serve as part of PBO’s community empowerment programs, promoting values that align with our mission, such as Respect, Solidarity, Integrity, and Equality of opportunities.

About the Artist:

Ana Sofía Batlle is a Dominican artist who graduated with a BFA in Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2018. Since then, she has moved several times to improve her technique further and draw inspiration from different environments. Through composition, forms, lines, and colors, she creates a logical, intuitive, and repetitive aesthetic that questions the concept of beauty and perception, especially in relation to the human body. Batlle’s art represents her meditative work process, exploring the relationship between the body and its environment. Her work invites viewers to consider how patterns and repetition can be used to express the unique beauty of the human form.
