Last Thursday March 13th was quiet an adventure for the ladies of Casa de Campo, as we ventured out of Casa and over the river to the Ki-Ra Holistic Living Resort in Boca Chavón for the Café de la Leche.
For the most adventurous (or those running too late to catch the bus), the adventure started on the banks of the Chavón river just outside of the Marina Casa de Campo where we hopped aboard a “yola” (a small wooden boat) to cross the river. While not the most glamorous means of transport, it did the trick and in a splish and a splash we were over the river, and found ourselves in the village of Boca Chavón, from where we were given a ride to the Ki-Ra Holistic Living Retreat… and felt like we had arrived into a different world.
With a guest house called “the tower”, a spa, and the home of Kyra Montague and her family, the Ki-Ra Holistic Retreat is exactly what you would expect – simple and tranquil. A beautiful place where nature is the center of it all.
In typical Kyra style, the gathering was refreshingly laid-back and relaxing, with guests invited to come and go and explore as they please. No area was “out of bounds”, so the more than 50 guests wandered freely admiring and enjoying everything the Ki-Ra Holistic Living Retreat has to offer.
Around the pool and terrace area a variety of refreshments were served, all home-made using fruits and vegetables grown in the Kir-Ra Holistic Retreat garden. There was a delicious nispero juice, seagrape juice and a even a hot pineapple tea, they were all delicious – I know because yes I couldn’t resist tasting them all!
For nibbles, Kyra treated us to all sorts of weird and wonderful, and healthy, treats – coconut bites, guacamole, quinoa kipes… and so much more… so much in fact that I didn’t need any dinner afterwards!
It was a fabulous occasion and a great opportunity to explore the Ki-Ra Holistic Living Resort, which you can get to from Casa (via boat) is just 15 minutes, or in the car in about 30 minutes. If you haven’t been yet, it’s certainly worth a visit.

Ki-Ra Holistic Living Resort
Ki-Ra is a place where you can come and have the experience of holistic living taking as much or as little as you want. Holistic living literally means a way of life that integrates all parts of connecting with nature and oneself; finding your perfect balance of health, fun, relationships with family, friends and the environment, living in nature in a comfortable way and fully enjoying all aspects of your life. The energy here is really peaceful so you can definitely escape if you want to or come and have some healing time with treatments and healthy food, but we are keen to emphasize that it’s meant to be a fun experience so that it remains something that you actually continue to do and enjoy after you leave.
Ki-Ra offers all sorts of retreats from 3 to 8 days, as well as lots of different natural treatments (Naturopathic Medicine, Detox, Homeopathy etc), and holistic activities such as yoga and meditation.

The Cafe de la Leche is a monthly charitable event, a little like a coffee or a tea party held for the ladies of Casa de Campo (although men are occasionally invited) and usually takes place on the first Friday of the month, hosted by a member of the Casa de Campo villa at her Casa de Campo villa or occasionally restaurant/business.
