The MIR Magical Splendor for Life fundraising weekend came to a spectacular close on Saturday night the 22nd of January with Ron Atlantico mojitos, dinner catered by Le Cirque, the Badgley Mischka fashion show, live music with the ‘Hermanos Rosarios’ and after party with DJ Gringo! Oh what a night!
The evening’s VIP special guests (all of whom donated between USD$300 and $1,000 per person to MIR), started the evening with Grey Goose Martini cocktails and Ron Atlantico mojitos, whilst being photographed by the many press photographers, greeting other guests, admiring each others dresses (well the ladies did at least) and ogling the jewelry at the Tiffany’s Mystery Blue Box wall.
The Tiffany’s mystery blue boxes play a major role in the fundraising aspect of the event – guests buy a mystery blue box by choosing an available number from the wall, and you ‘win’ an item of jewelry. This year 100 boxes were for sale at a price of $300 per box and with ALL proceeds being donated by Tiffany’s directly to the MIR, that means an extra $30,000 for the Fundacion MIR to further, improve and expand its current projects, such as its new elementary school which has only just opened. By the end of the night there were many luck ladies parading around with shiny new Tiffany’s jewelry – it is for charity, how could we resist?
From the cocktails and shopping, guests were invited to dinner with a varied entertainment program. The ‘show’ began with a blessing from Padre Víctor Garcia, before ‘show’ Lian Fanjul de Azqueta, the founder of the Fundacion MIR greeted and thanked the more than 300 guests and spoke with real heart and enthusiasm about the MIR’s many projects, which are changing the lives of so many women and children in need. The evening’s hosts Anthony Alvarez and Adamari Lopez continued with an awards ceremony for the winners of the golf tournament and then introduced a very special guest singer, which they described as the Dominican Republic’s ‘Destiny’s Child.’ The guest singer was Angela, who did an incredible rendition of Juan Luis Guerra’s ‘Bendicion,’ Angela also sang in our Teatro de la Comunidad in December, where she won the ‘Best Singing Performance.’
This video is a collection of clips from throughout the evening, which although not of amazing quality will give you a good feel of the event!
This incredible evening then continued with the Badgley Mischka fashion show with no fewer than 35 different dresses and outfits, dancing to the live music of Los Hermanos Rosarios and finally more dancing with DJ Gringo – more photos and video of this coming very soon!

The Fundacion MIR (Mission International Rescue) is a non-profit organization that works to supply the Dominican Republic’s most marginalized people with a variety of life-altering services. Since 1990, we have served the women, youth and children of La Romana and the Eastern region of the Dominican Republic by partnering with and providing funding for social programs. With the help of benefactors and individual contributions, the programs provide a home, medical assistance, education and technical preparation for the people that are most in need in our community.
