Last Saturday the 18th of January the Fundación MIR Magical Splendor for Life annual fundraising weekend got off to a fine start with the golf tournament played at the La Romana Country Club in Casa de Campo.
Another beautiful day in paradise, more than 100 Casa de Campo golfers flocked to the La Romana Country Club golf course where they were greeted by the cheerful Fundación MIR team, among them Lian Fanjul de Azqueta, founder and president of the cause, and her daughter Lyanne Azqueta, vice-president of the Fundación MIR, who were very happy to welcome so many supporters to the annual event.
Before teeing off, Lian Fanjul de Azqueta looking as chic as ever, greeted the golfers with a short speech of heart-felt thanks, mentioning that the participation of each golfer contributes to 1 year of education for 1 child at the Fundación MIR schools, something which represents an investment into their future. Children of the Fundación are already advancing in their prospective careers, many who have already graduated and are now working as doctors, nurses, lawyers and in a variety of other fields.
“The Fundación MIR believes in the need to provide a better future for the children of our country, so we strive to hold activities such as these, always thanking the support of so many companies and the many people involved,” said Lian Fanjul de Azqueta.
And then the players surged forward, joining the drive for education as they teed off around the the La Romana Country Club golf course – just one of the 5 Pete Dye designed golf courses found in the Casa de Campo resort.
On their way around the course, the philanthropic golfers were greeted by many snacks and other goodies on their way – the favorites being the Chivas 18 and Ron Atlantico bars – where a refreshing pit-stop was very gratefully received, even by those of us taking photos!
At the end of the tournament, there always has to be a winner, or in this case a team of winners – as the tournament was played in a scramble best ball format – and it was at the dinner-dance gala later that same evening at Casa Grande that the winners were revealed. We published a few photos of the dinner-dance and Ángel Sánchez fashion show earlier this week (click here) – but you can expect many more very soon!
