The FIP (Foundation for International Polo) World Cup Play-Offs came to a disappointing end for the Dominican Republic on Sunday the 15th of May, with Mexico beating the Dominican Republic in the final match of the 2 week play-offs and thus qualifying for the FIP World Cup Finals to be held in Argentina later this year.
The final play-offs of the event were played between Mexico and the Dominican Republic; the first game took place on Friday the 13th of May when Mexico beat the Dominican Republic with 9 goals to 7 and the last game was played on Sunday afternoon the 15th of May, when Mexico beat the Dominican Republic for a second time with 14 goals to 11. The play-offs between the 2 teams were played in the form of ‘best out of 3’, which following Mexico’s second consecutive win on Sunday proclaimed them the overall winners and so following the game a prize-giving ceremony and celebratory cocktail took place on the Casa de Campo polo fields. Special guests from the FIP organization as well as polo aficionados from the Casa de Campo community were in attendance at the event to commiserate with the Dominican players and celebrate with the Mexicans.
The FIP (Foundation for International Polo) World Cup Play-Offs, were celebrated in Casa de Campo from Tuesday the 3rd of May through to Sunday the 15th of May, with teams, USA, Canada and Guatemala competing against one another in the first round, with team USA finally stealing the glory on Tuesday the 10th of May with a 10 – 8 victory over the Canadians.
During their time in Casa de Campo the FIP polo players, their friends and families enjoyed dinners and parties at CDC’s restaurants, a tour to the Tabacalera de Garcia and the Casino Diamante Dominicus Bayahibe and even a boat ride to Palmilla!
