What a treat! The Metropolitan Opera, the largest classical music association in North America, with it’s program “Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD” invites you to enjoy the 2012-2013 season – via LIVE transmission from New York to the cinema at Acrópolis in Santo Domingo.
The “Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD” program, broadcasts live performances via satellite from the Metropolitan Opera House, directly to movie theaters all across the world – including the Acrópolis in Santo Domingo. What a wonderful opportunity to experience the Metropolitan Opera live without having to go to New York!
The 2012-2013 season of the “Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD” – premiers this Saturday the 13th of October with Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore, a new production which stars Anna Netrebko and Matthew Polenzani, as the fickle Adina and her besotted Nemorino, in one of the greatest comic gems in opera.

Each opera is repeated at 7pm the following Wednesday – at the Fine Arts cinema in Novo Centro, also in Santo Domingo.

Although most operas will shown with subtitles in English, some will have subtitles in Spanish – so if this is something that matters to you, please call in advance to check.
Since the “Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD” was launched in 2006 it has become extremely popular – with significantly more viewers enjoying the live transmissions than attending in the actual Metropolitan Opera House throughout the entire season.

Cost: RD$900 per person or purchase the entire season (12 operas) for RD$9840. Please note you cannot buy tickets over the phone or on the internet – the ONLY way to get tickets is to buy them from the box office at the Acropolis Cinema in Santo Domingo. (Tickets can be purchased “on the door” – but advance purchase is recommended as seats are limited and it is very popular.)
