In this week’s ‘Memories of Casa de Campo’ Carol Burke remembers golfing on the Teeth of the Dog and the delights of dining at the Lago Grill restaurant.
To learn and then to put into practice – isn’t that a delight?

People come from all over the world to golf at Casa de Campo. In the old days, people flew directly in to Casa on the American Eagle commuter plane for a day of golf.

From the air strip it was an easy golf cart ride to the starter at Golf.

One time Grandma and Grandpa came to play golf all the way from Cleveland, Ohio, USA.

Afterwards there was a decision to make: where to eat – Lago Grill or the Pro Shop?
Where is the nearest restaurant?
The Pro Shop Restaurant, Hole 19, was conveniently located on the outdoor terrace of the Pro Shop with a view of the Teeth of the Dog.
They also had a fast-track menu that you would mark the items you wanted directly on the menu.

Lago Grill was located near the Golf shop, a short drive in the golf cart.
Sometimes it was hard to find a parking space in the Lago lot.

Both restaurants were popular places, but Lago Grill attracted more people than the Golf Shop restaurant.
Ready for Breakfast or Lunch at Lago
Lago served breakfast and lunch. The breakfast line was always full. Chefs took your omelet order and prepared it for you right there.

The menu at Lago was beautiful. The outside of the menu looked like the entrance to Lago, with its thatched triangular roof,

and inside the cover was a painting of the view from Lago.

The view from Lago Grill was spectacular. In the distance is the Caribbean Sea, closer in was the runway, then the lake for which the restaurant was named.
One could sit at a table at Lago Grill and watch the golfers on the Teeth of the Dog, the white birds flying back and forth from their trees on a small island in the lake, and the airplanes on the runway as they took off and landed.
