The 8th annual McDaniel Teaching Pro’s Tournament celebrated from the 6th to the 10th of March 2013 at the La Terraza Tennis Club and the La Romana Country Club in Casa de Campo was more successful than ever before – raising a whopping US$46,500 – thus enabling the foundation to award a college sponsorship to one of the graduating ball boys for the first time!
This announcement came following the surprise victory of Francisco Concepcion (pictured right with trophy) over reigning champion Pedro Nolasco in the finals held on Sunday March 10th. Following the thrill of a very closely fought match between 2 of Casa de Campo’s best tennis players – the ball boys, professionals, players, the tournament committee and guests enjoyed dinner and drinks on the lawn of the La Romana Country Club – where the prize-giving ceremony was also held.
As a proud member of the organising committee, for me the best part of the tournament was undoubtedly the prize-giving – the moment all the hard work was suddenly worth it. The moment the smiles on all the players faces reflected what this tournament is all about – ensuring a brighter future through education for both the players and the ball boys.
