Since the moment legendary cigar master blender, José Seijas announced he was bringing the equally legendary Matilde cigar back to life, we have all been anxiously awaiting for it’s launch onto the Dominican market. And now that day has finally arrived.
Master Blender and Cigar Aficionado Hall of Fame inductee, Jose Seijas, having ran the Tabacalera de Garcia here in La Romana, the largest hand-rolled cigar factory in the world, is today a 40-year veteran of the premium cigar business.
“I am passionate about smoking cigars and have dedicated 40 years of my life to the cigar industry. I am now tapping my deep roots in the Domincan Republic to revive a forgotten brand called Matilde. Tabacalera La Matilde is a unique boutique cigar factory where I am free to make cigars in my own way. I lead a small team focused exclusively on bringing you the best cigar experience in the world. Matilde is the satisfaction of my life’s dream. It is my great pleasure to share it with you.” Says José Seijas.
Today, José Seijas runs Tabacalera La Matilde cigars, based at La Flor Dominicana Cigar Factory & Tour at La Estancia, a brand now known as the benchmark for premium craft Dominican cigars.
José Seijas’ first creation under the Tabacalera La Matilde brand is the Matilde Renacer, voted #19 in Cigar Aficionados Top 25 Cigars of 2014, and having been on sale across the world, it is now (finally) available here in the Dominican Republic!
“Matilde Renacer is a robust smoke which would delight the most discerning aficionado. The predominant taste is of sweet molasses with notes of Dominican black coffee and dark chocolate. Creaminess lingers on your palate throughout the smoke, exuding aromas of earth and leather.” Explains José Seijas.
The Matilde Renacer is available at La Flor Dominicana Cigar Factory & Tour at La Estancia, which is open daily from 8am – 7pm.
