A delightful afternoon passed on Wednesday, March 8th as sponsors of the McDaniel Family Foundation gathered at the La Romana Country Club for a thank-you lunch hosted by Marty and Marilyn Chattman. With both sunglasses and umbrellas in hand, not sure which way the skies would turn, we fortunately were blessed with a breezy, sunny afternoon. The country club’s outdoor terrace was outfitted with several tables for guests and a podium where Mr. McDaniel spoke on the excellent support of the Casa de Campo community and his sincere gratefulness.
This year, 24 ball boys will receive scholarships and 26 players receive health insurance. Two former ball boys have been gifted with college scholarships, and 28 ball boys are receiving weekly English lessons. Additionally, at this year’s Doubles Tournament each of the twenty participating players will receive $20,000 pesos! Contributions such as these provide immeasurable opportunities for these working players in Casa de Campo’s La Terraza Tennis Center and La Romana Country Club.
Since the foundation’s beginning in 2005, 90% of all donations are used exclusively for the children’s benefit. Mr. McDaniel said they have nearly reached their quota to fulfill this year’s plan. A delicious afternoon lunch was comprised of tomato bisque, salmon or grilled chicken salad, and apple, lemon, or carrot cake for dessert. Guests happily chatted with friends, enjoying the view of the LRCC golf course, and spoke of the upcoming matches. Many who can be seen playing tennis daily including Karen Adams and Idarmis Cucurullo are excited to root for their players!
