The Women Together charitable foundation works with the UN to eradicate poverty – by developing and promoting local arts and crafts in undeveloped countries, essentially training local artisans to effectively commercialise their products and help bring them to a much larger audience. Last summer, the Special Programs branch of the Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design joined forces with Women Together – providing accommodation and training to 40 artisans during their Verano 2012 summer school. During the cocktail the various VIP guests were invited to view and purchase the products created during this intensive 2 week course; an impressive and varied collection of pieces handcrafted largely from natural Dominican materials.
