The Altos de Chavón School of Design has always been characterized by including within its faculty a community of designers and artists dedicated to academic excellence. From September 2015, the renowned Italian designer Marina Spadafora joins The School of Design as tyhe Fashion Design career director and teacher of some subjects within the Fashion career imparted both at Chavón La Romana and Santo Domingo.
Marina Spadafora has a history of over 25 years in the fashion industry, which has allowed her to work with many brands such as Ferragamo, Prada, and Miu Miu. Their collections have been presented at Fashion Week Milan and distributed around the world.
Marina’s job has always included a strong social and environmental focus, under the philosophy that ethics and aesthetics can match. Currently, she is producing garments with organic and natural materials of sustainable design and this led her being awarded the Women Together Award, an award which promotes ethical, cultural and working values for sustainable development.
Marina assumed the commitment to sustainability in a way that respects the rights of craftspeople in all latitudes. She is creative director of “Auteurs du Monde”, a fashion collection produced by artisans in Southeast Asia, Africa and South America which includes clothing, accessories and jewelry made of fabrics and natural materials like silk, cotton and alpaca. They reinterpret the traditions of the place, taking into account the actual costs of processing to ensure adequate remuneration for work.
She has worked as a lecturer in fashion at NABA – New Academy of Fine Arts – Milan.
