The fourth edition of the Sailfish Bowl Fishing Tournament occurred from Feb. 8 to Feb. 10 at the Marina Casa de Campo.
Ten fishing teams, comprising nearly 40 angling enthusiasts from various countries, eagerly participated in this year’s event. Over two days, they embarked on thrilling fishing expeditions in the region’s pristine waters.
The tournament director, Paco Vela, emphasized the event’s broader significance, transcending mere sporting competition. The tournament aims to integrate Dominican culture into participants’ experiences, immersing them in the country’s rich cultural and natural heritage.

The tournament’s official launch on Feb. 8 welcomed attendees with warmth from Casa de Campo authorities and the Ministry of Tourism. Distinguished guests, including Ana Vilchez, director of maritime tourism, and Roberto Mejía, overseeing the development of new tourism segments, graced the occasion.
Jason Kycek, senior vice president of sales and marketing, expressed his satisfaction with the tournament’s successful execution, underscoring Casa de Campo’s ongoing support for sports and tourism in the region.
The tournament’s winners were announced with great fanfare during the award ceremony on Saturday, Feb. 10. The prizes were distributed as follows:
Boat Awards Based on Points:
- Islamar: First place, with 1500 points
- Ambar: Second place, with 1200 points
- Trilo Bite: Third place, with 900 points
Individual Angler Awards:
- Charlie Donato of Islamar: First place, with 1200 points
- Lian Wischenbart of Trilo Bite: Second place, with 900 points
- Miguel Barletta of Ambar: Third place, with 600 points
The tournament showcased a competitive spirit and fostered camaraderie among fishing enthusiasts while highlighting the Dominican Republic’s allure as a prime destination for angling adventures.
As the sun set on the Sailfish Bowl Fishing Tournament, participants departed with memories of exhilarating times at sea, cementing the event’s place in the history of maritime sport.
