Over the last 3 months, more than 500 Blue Marlins have been released by fisherman fishing out of the Marina Casa de Campo, making the 2014 fishing season, with still 2 months to go, their most successful fishing season yet.
During the entire 2013 fishing season (February to May), a total of just over 500 Blue Marlins were released, an impressive figure that contributed to the Billfish report naming the Dominican fishing season 2013 “the finest the world has ever seen”. Today with more than 500 Blue Marlins already released and 2 more months of the season still to fish, there can be no doubt that the Marina Casa de Campo and the waters between La Romana and Punta Cana are now a world-class billfishing destination.
In March alone 443 Blue Marlin were released with an average of 16 releases per day.
While approximately 33 international fishing vessels are docked at the Marina Casa de Campo to take advantage of this legendary Blue Marlin fishing. With news of this outstanding fishing season spreading, many more fishing boats are expected to arrive to extend the fishing season until June.
Returning fishing boats have included the Fa-La-Me, Blue Heaven, Betsy, Ambush, Chasin’ Tail and Shoe. While new boats to the Marina Casa de Campo scene who experienced a lot of action included Whoo Dat, Committed, Hey Girl, Hook N’ Bull, Dream Time, Reel Passion, Black Gold, Bangarang, Deguello, Skin Deep, Jaruco, Thunder, amongst others.
This season, the Marina Casa de Campo has the honor to count with the presence of captains and anglers of international prestige among which are Frank Rodriguez, Ed Thompson, Rich Barret, Rob Moore, Neil Orange, Tim Popfinger, Miguel Tirado, Devin Silas, Tim Richardson, Keith Bokenhagen, and Mike Brauser.
The most successful day of the fishing season so far came on March 15th, when fishing vessel Doña Lucy saw 17 Blue Marlin.
Meanwhile Bangarang had an exciting day on the 12th of March releasing 5-8 Blue Marlins and the day before Reel Passion released 6-9 and repeating the releases (6-11) the 22nd of March during the first day of the Casa de Campo International Blue Marlin Classic Tournament. That same day Hook N’ Bull released 6-7. Others that have ensured their pass into the 6+ Club are Betsy (6-8) on March 14th and Black Gold (6-12) on the 18th of the same month.
Chasin Tail got in on March 27th with 7-8 releases, they continued to fish the following days with 1-3, 6-8 and finally 8-9 releases on March 29th.
Fa-La-Me enjoyed March madness adding 6-8 on the 22nd of March and 6-6 on the 23rd numbers that gave them the win on the first edition of Casa de Campo International Blue Marlin Classic Tournament. But they didn’t stop there, on the 25th they released 6-10 and to finish off March they released 8-14 on the 26th. Fa-La-Me closed the month of March with 50 Blue Marlin releases in just 11 remarkable days of fishing.
But the March mayhem didn’t stop there; to close with a bang on the 31st, Dream Time released 12-13 Blues and a White Marlin, closing the second month of the season with 491 releases for an average of 16 releases per day.
The average released per day is 10 Blue Marlins in the 53 days that have formally gone by since the start of the season including January (pre season).
With 2 more months of the 2014 fishing season to go, we look forward to seeing many more Blue Marlin releases in the weeks to come.
