Los Toros del Este“Los Toros Azucareros del Este” baseball team of La Romana announced, at a press conference in Casa de Campo this week, that from day 1 of the Dominican Baseball season they will be fighting with one of the most balanced teams in the league. Luis Emilio Rodriguez Amiama, team president, said the integration of players like Donell Linares, Jose Valverde, Cesar Puello, Ricardo Nanita, Diory Hernandez, Jose Rafael Diaz, among others, gives them the power necessary to tackle the first part of the regular series, with sufficient depth both in the field and on the bench. Los Toros del Este The press conference, celebrated at the Flamboyan Conference Center in Casa de Campo, was attended by the team manager Dave Miley, the “madrina” (literally – godmother), Mariella Matar a student at the Abraham Lincoln School, as well as many other special guests. One of the main announcements for the team was that Germán Esteban, Raul Valdes, Jose Ramirez, Jose Constanza, Alen Hanson, Angel Villalona, Eduardo Nuñez, Alejandro De Aza, Joselo Diaz and Fernando Abad, will be joining Los Toros  was announced that at the end of October or beginning of November. “When we have all these players together, will be one of the most powerful teams; and we hope that chemistry that gave us the championship in 2011, will be back” said Felix Francisco, the general manager of Los Toros del Este. The Dominican Baseball season opens very soon, on October the 18th, when Los Toros will be up against Las Estrellas in San Pedro, with the following line-up: Mayobanex Acosta ( C ), Donell Linares (1B ), Angelys Nina (2B ) , Diory Hernandez (3B), Hector Gomez ( SS), Eugenio Velez ( LF), Cesar Puello ( CF), Ricardo Nanita (RF) . REINFORCEMENTS AND MANAGER Dave Miley, will be the manager. He is a veteran who has managed in the majors with the Cincinnati Reds, and who loves to play “small” baseball, precisely the strategy of the game that Los Toros have been implementing in recent seasons – and which led them to their second league crown in 2011. “I came to win, what I have seen on paper is good material to compete, now we go to the field to make a team”, said Miley during the press conference in Casa de Campo. Other reinforcements arriving in the coming days are right-handers Elih Villanueva and Mitch Talbot, lefty George Baumann and first baseman Matt Hague. LUXURY BULLPEN The manager Dave Miley proudly spoke of his “luxury bullpen”, consisting of players Jose Valverde, Jose Rafael Diaz and Winston Abreu, which he expects will turn into the best relievers in the Dominican League. “If we reach the seventh, we have a good chance to win the game, because we have the best mix of experienced veterans and young pitchers that have already been tested in the Domincan circuit,” said Miley. They will also have Jose Lugo, Jose Capellan and Franklin Germán in long relief; so “Los Toros” should not lose for lack of quality pitching. Los Toros are ready and raring to go…..vamos que – aquí to’somo Toros!
