On Wednesday April 2nd, famous salsa singer Marc Anthony officially opened the the new boys home of the Orfanato Niños y Niñas de Cristo built by the Maestro Cares Foundation with the support of dozens of other local sponsors. Here we bring you a look inside the new home.
The new facility which is now home to more than 100 boys is a fully integrated campus with dormitories, dining facilities, a playground and health clinic. There is even a baseball field, which during the opening ceremony was inaugurated by Marc Anthony himself who stepped up to the plate to pitch.
Located just outside of La Romana, near to the Fundación MIR’s Campo Nueva Esperanza school, this new campus allows the Orfanato to provide a safe, happy and well-equipped home for the boys age 6 months to 17 years old.
The Orfanato Niños y Niñas de Cristo orphanage in La Romana was founded in 1995 by “mom” Sonia Hane, and now cares for more than 150 girls and more than 100 boys for the last 19 years. Thanks to the endless support of the Casa de Campo community and numerous friends of the cause, such as Marc Anthony and the Maestro Cares Foundation, the orphanage has continued to grew and expand over the years, with the girls now living at the “main campus” with it’s own school and church, while the boys live in this newly opened home.
Wednesday April 2nd 2014, marked the opening of the new home, an event attended by not only Marc Anthony, but also vice president of the Dominican Republic Margarita Cedeño de Fernandez, president of the Dominican senate Reinaldo Pared Pérez, Lian Fanjul de Azqueta, Eduardo Martinez-Lima, Romeo Santos and Manolo Cardona, as well as numerous members of the Casa de Campo community. The Maestro Cares Foundation
The Maestro Cares Foundation (MCF) was founded by international pop superstar Marc Anthony and entrepreneur Henry Cárdenas in January 2012 as a non-profit organization established to benefit homeless and neglected children in developing Latin American countries. Maestro Cares seeks to offer assistance to these children while supporting social services and other development programs. Soon after it was founded, the Orfanato Niños de Cristo in La Romana was chosen as the first beneficiary of the cause.
“Maestro Cares improves the quality of life for orphaned children throughout Latin America. We work to achieve our mission by providing housing, classrooms, health clinics, dining and recreational facilities.”
