Traveling between Miami and La Romana just got easier. Starting Dec. 5, 2024, American Airlines will launch daily flights between Miami International Airport and La Romana, with round-trip fares starting at around $291.
On Sept. 10, Miami-Dade County officials and tourism stakeholders gathered at Miami International Airport to celebrate this announcement. The new route will boost tourism and strengthen economic ties between Florida and the Dominican Republic.
The event featured notable speakers, including David Collado, Dominican Republic’s minister of tourism; Jason Kycek, senior vice president of Casa de Campo Resort & Villas; Miami-Dade commissioner Kevin M. Cabrera; Ralph Cutié, CEO of Miami International Airport; and Juan Carlos Liscano, vice president of Miami Operations for American Airlines. Each highlighted the new route’s potential impact on tourism and international business.
“Today’s announcement highlights our gateway status to the Americas, thanks to American Airlines’ investment in Miami,” said Commissioner Cabrera. “This new service to La Romana underscores our expanding connectivity and collaboration.”

The daily flights are expected to drive growth in tourism and commerce, particularly given La Romana’s popularity among U.S. tourists. During his speech, Collado said the United States remains the top source of visitors to the Dominican Republic, and this new route will make travel even more accessible.
“This flight is more than just a route; it’s a bridge connecting two vibrant communities,” said Kycek, emphasizing the significance of the connection for both leisure travelers and business executives.
American Airlines has maintained a strong relationship with the Dominican Republic since 1975. Liscano praised this enduring partnership, calling it a “beautiful romance” that has lasted 49 years. With 412 daily flights scheduled this winter, La Romana is set to become a key destination.
The event also saw participation from the World Trade Center Miami and the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau, highlighting the new route’s potential to boost business opportunities between the two regions.
