Designed in the style of an old sugar mill, the new airport was built by the Central Romana Corporation at a cost of US$100million.
Today, the airport welcomes direct flights from New York, Miami and San Juan with connections to all main US cities, as well as the Eastern Caribbean Islands, Europe and South America, and also receives more private aircrafts than any other airport in the country.
