This past Sunday the 27th of March, Casa de Campo’s polo playing community and their many supporters were out on the Casa de Campo polo fields enjoying the beautiful weather and a very exciting and fast-paced polo match – the finals of the President’s Cup.
The La Pachanga team, captained by Casa de Campo villa owner Roberto Jimenez with team members Luis A. Paniagua, Pedro Soria and Dennis Santana were the overall winners beaiting the La Carbuccia team with captain Luis A. Carbuccia and team members Alexander Schad, Zenon Zorrilla and Ferin Iturrioz.
Here Tania G Evans, Casa de Campo villa owner, Polo player and Polo aficionado tells us a little more about this exciting polo match:
“A closely matched and very fast Finals of the President’s Cup was played yesterday afternoon on Casa de Campo’s polo field. The final score was 10-9, with Team La Pachanga winning. The game was a trade of goal for goal throughout, often tied. Then La Pachanga earned two goals to move ahead on a score of 10-8 with the 10th goal scored by Dennis Santana with a brilliant backhand from 30 yards out.  In the last chukker Team La Carbuccia took one more goal by Alexander Schad, a long straight shot from the middle of the field.  A great goal but it wasn’t enough to turn the tide against La Pachanga carrying off the trophy. The weather was spectacular, clouds billowing above the huge expanse of green as if this game played out in a Turner painting. The two umpires from Argentina were Felipe Martinez and Alfredo Bigatti.  The 3rd umpire, who holds the final decision in disputes, was 3-goal Dominican player, Ramon Espina.
