Renowned Dominican artist Kikito Rodríguez is set to captivate art enthusiasts once again as WAO Gallery & Cultural Center in Altos de Chavón prepares to unveil his latest exhibition, “El Ruido del Tiempo,” on January 12.

Rodríguez’s artistic narrative draws inspiration from the ever-shifting formations of clouds, influenced by the whims of wind, light, darkness, and motion. These natural elements are a pivotal reference in his compositions, becoming the landscape, tonality, and scale for interpreting ambiguous symbols and androgynous figures.

His work, steeped in emotions, cosmic elements, movement, knowledge, mystique, and time, navigates an intuitively abstract language. For Rodríguez, intuition and abstraction provide the most potent tools for expressing himself with heightened freedom and emotion.

The exhibition will showcase 27 pieces, inviting viewers into a realm where suns, moons, earth, water, and various phenomena converge and dance within inhospitable landscapes. It calls for a moment of reflection on the planet’s quality of life, urging contemplation on the urgency of our times.

In its commitment to sustainable initiatives with social impact, the Patronato Benéfico Oriental, Inc. (PBO) continues to promote culture through its programs. It has augmented its efforts by aligning with WAO Chavón initiatives, including WAO Innovation HUB, WAO Gallery & Cultural Center, and the Museo Arqueológico Regional Altos de Chavón.

The exhibition will run from January 12 to February 12, 2024, welcoming visitors from Wednesday to Saturday, 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, and on Sundays and Tuesdays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (closed on Mondays).

Proceeds from the various projects and activities will support social programs, enabling the replication of these initiatives in vulnerable communities. These efforts align with PBO’s community empowerment programs, fostering values such as respect, solidarity, integrity, and equal opportunities.

About the Artist:

Kikito Rodríguez, a multidisciplinary Dominican artist based in New York, was born in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic 1963. He began his artistic journey by studying drawing at Modern School, Santo Domingo 1978. From 1985 to 1988, he participated in workshops encompassing drawing, painting, engraving, stained glass, graphic design, and photography at the Escuela de Diseño Altos de Chavón. He graduated in Fine Arts and Illustration from the same institution affiliated with Parsons The New School in New York in 1988.

Upon relocating to the United States, Rodríguez adopted an interdisciplinary approach to his creative practice, blending various techniques and mediums such as woodwork, photography, serigraphy, recycling, and digital media. This fusion enriched his artistic language, resulting in mixed-media paintings bursting with a surreal flow of images, atmospheres, allusions, and metamorphic chromatic spaces. Rodríguez avoids allowing objectivity and technique to overshadow the creative act, rejecting any attempts at representation and evading logical reflections that might tarnish the purity of his work.

His pieces have graced the walls of esteemed galleries, museums, cultural centers, and contemporary art fairs in the United States, Argentina, and the Dominican Republic. Rodríguez has also been featured in several art newspapers and magazines.

This upcoming exhibition promises an immersive journey into Rodríguez’s vivid artistic universe, inviting spectators to traverse the realms of emotion, introspection, and environmental consciousness through his compelling creations.
