Juan José Guerra once again demonstrated his skill as a professional golfer and claimed victory for the third time in the Stroke Play National Championships. This year marked the 56th tournament edition, which took place at the Teeth of the Dog, The Links, and Dye Fore courses within the Casa de Campo Resort in La Romana. Over 250 players participated in the event.
Guerra, an athlete from Creso, finished with 275 strokes. He carded even-par rounds of 72 on Friday and Sunday but secured his triumph with impressive games of 66 and 65 on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Juan José finished five strokes ahead of Willy Pumarol, another Creso athlete, while Julio Santos from Puerto Plata took third place with a score of 293.
Juanjo previously won the championships in 2020, 2021, and now in 2023 as a professional. Rhadamés Peña claimed last year’s edition in the amateur category.
Other Winners
In the A category, Juan Cayro Delgado, the national Amateur champion, emerged victorious with a total score of 294. Rodrigo Huerta, a rising star, secured second place with a score of 295.
Erick Morales claimed the international champion trophy with a score of 293. Andrés Aranguren, another Puerto Rican golfer, finished as the runner-up with a score of 296.

Alberto Menicucci was crowned champion in the AA category, scoring 322. Carlos Manuel Linares also finished with the same score, but Menicucci clinched the first-place spot based on a tiebreaker.
Manuel Arias won the B category with a score of 250 strokes, edging Edward Amarante by a single stroke (251) to claim the trophy.
Juan Paulino was crowned champion in the C category, finishing 245 strokes over three rounds. Alejandro Valdez secured second place with 261 strokes.
In the Women’s B category, Karen Cuevas claimed the title with rounds of 87, 90, and 86, finishing seven strokes ahead of the young Sarah Lapaix, who took the runner-up spot with a total score of 270.
Fabio Balbuena became the Mid-Amateur champion with a score of 308, closely followed by Sigfrido Pared, who finished second with 310 strokes.

In the D category, Eduardo Saladín claimed victory with 101 points, while Aquiles Colombo finished as the runner-up with 96 points in this Stableford-format competition.
Ángel Sartorius excelled in the Senior A category, finishing the event with 307 strokes. Hugo Lazarde secured second place with 313 strokes.
This time, Eduardo Creque defeated Maireni Bournigal in the Super Senior A category, scoring 315 and 323, respectively.
Veteran golfer Andrés Dilonex emerged as the champion in the Super Senior B category, defeating Elías Herrera with scores of 235 and 251, respectively.
Diego Pineda dominated the Senior B category with 252 strokes, while Teófilo Valera finished as the runner-up with 285 strokes.
Volker Schmid claimed victory in the Senior C category with 104 points, surpassing Ángel Peguero’s 97 points.
Dedication
Before the awards ceremony, the officials of Fedogolf presented a recognition plaque to Don César Rivera for his contributions to Dominican and Caribbean golf. The event was dedicated to him.
