In 10 days the Davidoff Tour Gastronomique – Art & Gourmet Weekend begins, and we can think of nothing more enjoyable than the exquisite pairing of Chef Peter Knogl’s fine cuisine with exclusive cigars by Davidoff. On February 18th we take a Viaje al Origen…
The first day starts early — a private plane takes us from La Romana Airport to Santiago de los Caballeros. From there, we travel on to Jicomé. The town is in the Valverde Province of the Dominican Republic. After a drive of about 45 minutes, we arrive at El Rancho in Jicomé and take a break for breakfast before traveling further to the ranch and the tobacco plantations. Here, we will be shown the secrets of the high art of tobacco cultivation and the proper way to harvest tobacco leaves.
As new tobacco experts, we make our way on to Villa Gonzalez. This city is located about 14 kilometres to the northwest of Santiago de los Caballeros and mainly lives from agriculture and tobacco cultivation. The high quality of snuff and cigar tobacco which is grown in this region is internationally recognized, and this is where the Davidoff estate is situated.

In 1990, Davidoff relocated its production to the Dominican Republic and only a few years later it launched legends such as “Aniversario”, “Classic”, “Mille”, Grand Cru”, Special” and “Millennium Blend”. In order to maintain high standards, the quality control for Davidoff cigars comprises several stages. After three quality checks during the manufacturing process, the products are finally inspected before the cigars are shipped to the distribution centres in Weil am Rhein (Germany), Basel (Switzerland) and Stamford (Connecticut, USA).

In the evening, the choice is available to fly back to the Casa de Campo Resort by private plane, or stay the night in Hotel Gran Almirante in Santiago de los Caballeros, spending the evening with dinner in the company of some of the Davidoff master blenders as well as a cigar and rum pairing.
