Are you ready to dance to some really good Merengue? Well, if your answer is “yes”, then we hope you are able to clear your agendas for this Saturday 5th of November – the good times begin in Altos de Chavón with a “Merengue party” featuring a concert with Wilfrido Vargas celebrating the Amphitheater’s 40th anniversary!
With over 50 years in the music industry, this band leader, trumpeter, vocalist, arranger, composer, and producer is one of the most celebrated Dominican merengue musicians and was instrumental in making the merengue style a worldwide phenomenon. He’s been honored with many national and international recognitions, including the award for Musical Excellence from the Latin Grammys.
He is also well known for being the creator and producer of successful merengue groups such as Las Chicas del Can and Altamira Banda Show.
In 1985, Vargas was the first Dominican soloist to play a concert at the Amphitheater, performing his repertoire of energetic merengue music – the musical genre of the Dominican Republic, and therefore he had to be in our celebration of the 40th Anniversary of our Amphitheater in Altos de Chavón!
