Jenny PolancoLast Saturday the 28th of December, famous Dominican designer, Jenny Polanco celebrated the opening a new art exhibit “Arte Naive” at the Jenny Polanco Project in Altos de Chavón. arte haitiano dominicanoThe opening of the exhibit was celebrated with mimosas shared amongst members of the greater Casa de Campo community who came to admire the beautiful and unusual artwork of the Dominican and Haitian artists exhibiting; Morillo, Adalberto, Noble, Luis Reyes and Tomas Reyes from the Dominican Republic, and from Haiti; Gerad Fortune, Destin Domond, Magda and Frank Estira. The exhibit, just a sample of the Dominican and Haitian artworks, that can be found at “Bolos Galería” in the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo represents a fascinating insight into both the Dominican and Haitian cultures. With colorful paintings including Dominican carnaval characters, scenes from the “car wash” and the “colmado” – two places where Dominicans gather for drinks and dancing, as well as a traditional Dominican wedding in a rural village. The Haitian paintings, while slightly less colorful are just as interesting, some with an obvious influence of voodoo, others certainly very “naive”, something which makes them absolutely fascinating. And on this occasion with 10% of all sales being donated to the Hogar del Niño, we all had a great excuse to shop! After all what is better than splurging for a good cause!? If you didn’t yet get chance to visit the “Arte Naive” exhibit, we really recommend you take a look – we feel in love with several pieces, and we’re sure you will too!
