On Thursday the 12th of September, The Gallery in Altos de Chavon celebrated the opening of new art exhibit “Open Spaces” presented by Juan Carlos Velaz.
The first photography exhibit to open in The Gallery since Jenny Polanco’s “Buscando Esencia” last August, the stunning collection of photography presented by Juan Carlos Velaz was both interesting and refreshing.
The beautiful and thought-provoking pieces ranged from great sweeping landscapes to up-close images of trees, and yet all inspired a soothing sensation of calm and tranquility.
His art-photography includes landscapes, wide shots of valleys, forests, slopes, coasts and close ups that generate subjective points of view with a high grade of abstraction where the organicity, the structures and the details take centre stage in the eternal interaction between the micro and macro.
In attendance at the cocktail was the artist Juan Carlos Velaz himself, who was only too happy to meet and greet the gathered Casa de Campo art aficionados, amongst them Stephen Kaplan, Rector of the Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design and fellow Dominican artists Fernando Tamburini. Also out in force were the students of the Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design, as well as a group of doctors of the Global Health Center at the Clínica de Familia in La Romana.
If you missed the opening, the exhibit will be open until October the 14th and The Gallery is open daily from 9am – 6pm, closed Wednesdays.
