This past Friday the 13th the Altos de Chavon art gallery hosted the inauguration of their latest art exhibit ‘Artistas en Residencia, Otoño ’09.’The event was very successful – attended by many Altos de Chavon art and design students, Casa de Campo residents and art followers and as has become customary – Agustin from Agustin en TV. Agustin is a La Romana local and focuses much of his filming expertise on the La Romana area and is especially avid about promoting the arts.

Here Raúl Miyar, the Head of Fine Arts and the Illustration Department, for the Altos de Chavon school of design talks about the exhibit:

The pieces presented in this exhibition by the Fine Arts students of Altos de Chavón are a result of a collaborative project with the Artist in Residence Santiago Paulós. As part of the regular semester curriculum the Fine Arts students had to execute a piece using a thick application of impasto paint. The artist in residence, Santiago Paulós an established artist from Uruguay, works in this manner. Recognizing an excellent opportunity for the students to learn from an experienced artist, Stephen Kaplan approached Santiago about working on a project with the Chavón students. Santiago agreed and under his direction the exhibited portrait paintings were created.

Below are all the photos we have (so far) of this event – as you can see Agustin was busy interviewing the artists, hopefully his interviews will be on YouTube soon, and when that happens we will publish them here for you to see!
