Hogar del Nino Talent Show
On Thursday April 30th the Hogar del Niño celebrated its first, and hopefully annual, Talent Show. The audience of over 600 people enjoyed the 20 dancing and singing acts that involved the participation of over 60 students, who spent the last 2 months rehearsing to make the show a success. In attendance were many Casa de Campo villa owners and residents, all of the personnel from the Patronato Benéfico Oriental, as well as many who often support the Hogar del Niño school. In addition to the students participating, four acts from outside of the Hogar were included. Linea Suprema HD and Varsity Crew wowed the crowd with three dance performances to begin and end the show. Meanwhile the student acts were full of talent and variety, including a Zumba group who danced to “Fireball” by Pitbull and one of the senior girls who sang “I Have Nothing” by Whitney Houston. To end the night, five different prizes were awarded to the winning performances. Second place for best dance went to the dance group “The Moonwalkers” and first place to “Zoom,” both groups consisting of students from the Hogar del Niño’s Area de Sordos. Second place for best singer went to the school’s resident salsero, Omar Orozco Rodriguez, who sang “Me Estás Provocando” by David Kada and first place went to Zuleika Santana who serenaded the crowd with her rendition of “Me Muero Por Besarte” by La Quinta Estacion. The overall winner was the sixth grade dance group, Electric Team, who garnered 468 points out of 500. Some singers performed songs in English such as a mash of “Halo/Titanium/Chandelier” and “Counting Stars” by One Republic. The five judges: Clarlin Rivera, Carolina Avila, Malele Strofer, Elsa Zelnick and Jefrey Carlos Sosa, did a wonderful job of judging each act in the various categories including stage presence, difficulty, and creativity. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to the Hogar del Niño’s art and music program to aid with materials that are greatly needed such as new instruments for our music classes and art supplies. The students really enjoyed performing and hopefully the audience enjoyed watching them. If anyone still has interest in donating to the program, please contact the PBO at (809)556- 3181. A big thank you to Nina Garambone, a volunteer at the Hogar del Niño who led the organisation of this event and who contributed this article for us.
