What a lovely surprise it was to enter the annual party for the Hogar del Niño dinner-dance and discover that the theme for this year’s celebration was… art! And the entire event was indeed artfully done!
As we were welcomed on the steps by the Hogar del Niño mascots, that was a first sign that this would be a fun party – as we were encouraged to pose with the adorable boy and girl couple that make up the Hogar del Niño couple.
And then came the art exhibit and silent auction… with artworks donated by members of our talented and surprisingly artistic Casa de Campo community, the auction featured a photograph by Tiziano De Stefano with fashion by Jenny Polanco, a series of 3 photographs by America Olivo, a painting by former Altos de Chavón School of Design student and current art teacher at the Hogar del Niño Argenis Lebron, a piece by Casa de Campo villa owner Malele Strofer, and the centrepiece of them all – “Inspired by the innocence in his eyes”, a hauntingly beautiful painting of a child from the Hogar del Niño by none other than Xiomara Menéndez herself.

Beyond the art, the Hogar del Niño held true to it’s philosophy of recycle, reuse and create, which meant that everything from the centrepieces to the skirts of the Hogar del Niño girls in attendance were created by hand and of course using recycled materials.
And so it was that the more than 100 guests enjoyed a wonderful Valentine’s evening surrounded by love and beautiful art.
In addition to dinner, drinks and dancing, the Hogar del Niño also took the opportunity to do a prize-giving ceremony for the winners of the various sporting activities that had taken place during the day.
Congratulations to the Hogar del Niño on a job well done, artfully done in fact!
