BREAKING NEWS! The Hogar del Niño, who are celebrating their 16th annual fundraising weekend this Saturday the 16th of February 2013, have just announced that the “dinner” will now be celebrated at Minitas Beach – with the theme “Beach Party”!
The dinner-dance party aspect of the event, has in the past been held at the La Romana Country Club – an elegant occasion with cocktails, dinner and dancing – but this year the charity have decided to opt for a much more relaxed atmosphere – telling attendees “Get ready to dip your feet in the sand and have a good time!” It looks like it’s time to re-think your dress option for this event! With “no shoes required” and the Hogar del Niño’s stick men dressed is Caribbean chic wear – I think it’s safe to assume a more casual look is certainly going to be acceptable!
“It wil be a relaxed beach party, honoring nature and it’s conservation. People should come as relaxed as they wish, it’s a night to celebrate love, peace and life. We’ll have shoe valets for anyone who wants to kick off their shoes. There will be wish lanterns to represent and embrace the things that are most important for “Hogar del Niño” (people will be able to pledge for these), there will even be bonfires! All of this without sacrificing the charm that always characterize the event. The auction will have very few but exclusive items…… “

Last year, the 15th Hogar del Niño Fundraising Weekend took place on Friday and Saturday the 17th and 18th of February – a wonderful celebration which was “conservation themed” (with some breathtaking decorations) and dedicated to the Hogar del Niño’s “Zona Verde”, an informal education pavilion where the children participate in extracurricular activities such as drama and music.
The Hogar del Niño is a children’s daycare and educational center for over 1500 children, located in La Romana town, just outside of Casa de Campo. Children from as young as just a few weeks old up to 18 years old are cared for and educated daily, from as early as 5:30am and staying as late as 7pm.
The organization also provides special schooling to over 75 hearing impaired and blind children, as well as a vocational school where over 235 students receive classes in different areas like: sewing; industrial preparation, installation and electrical maintenance; plumbing and management of computer office programs.
