The Commercial Director of the La Romana port and airport, Andrés Fernández, has reported that this year has witnessed the extraordinary flourishing of Dominican tourism, a phenomenon we have all witnessed firsthand. He indicates that the country’s significant achievements in this sector consolidate the Dominican Republic’s position as a fashionable and desired destination.
Successes in La Romana: Hotels, Renovations, and Air Connectivity
Fernández points out that La Romana has not lagged behind in this year of successes. Satisfaction is reflected in the excellent occupancy rates maintained by the region’s hotels, testifying to the appeal of their properties and the quality of the service offered.
In 2023, notable establishments have opened in La Romana, such as the Hilton Garden Inn La Romana and the Sunscape Dominicus La Romana. Additionally, the residential offerings have expanded with the inclusion of WILD Diamond. Renowned resorts like Catalonia Bayahibe, Viva Resorts by Wyndham, and La Estancia Golf Resort have undergone impressive renovations, reflecting a continuous commitment to excellence and quality.
Casa de Campo has also expanded by inaugurating new suites, a premier club, and a modern spa as part of the first phase of a multi-phase expansion project, with a total investment exceeding $90 million.
Air Connectivity: New Doors for Development

A year ago, the challenge of restoring La Romana’s air connectivity with the United States was set as an objective. Today, the executive confirms that this goal is being achieved with daily flights to Miami from Red Air and weekly frequencies to Puerto Rico from Silver Airways. These new connections open doors for the development and expansion of the destination.
Ongoing efforts are aimed at increasing connectivity with the significant market on the East Coast of the United States, strengthened by increased operations from Canada. Starting December 17, operations to La Romana Airport by Air Canada commenced, complementing existing services from Air Transat and Sunwing.
Celebrating 20 Years of Environmental Commitment

In a special celebration, La Romana Destination marked 20 years since the first Blue Flag in the entire American continent was raised at Playa Dominicus in Bayahibe. This milestone reinforces the commitment to environmental sustainability and coastal-marine resources, a commitment promising to continue for many more years, working for the well-being of ecosystems, the progress of communities, and the future of generations to come.
An Unprecedented Milestone: 10 Million Visitors

Tourism Minister David Collado announced a historic milestone by receiving the 10 millionth visitor on December 26, 2023. This unprecedented achievement is the result of the strategic collaboration between the public and private sectors, the vision of President Luis Abinader, and the dedication of the Ministry to position the Dominican Republic as a world-class tourist destination.
