This month’s Cafe de la Leche on Friday the 3rd of June was AWESOME! Hostesses Adriana Feaugas and Fefi Diazgranados brought a little extra fun and sparkle to the monthly charity event theme with a white theme and hats!  It is a truth universally acknowledged that, the ladies of Casa de Campo love to dress up! We love to get our hair, nails and make-up done and get dressed up in pretty dresses, but what we love more than anything else is to let our creativity run wild and play fancy dress! So when Fefi and Adraina announced that all ladies were required to wear white and a hat or head dress – the creative minds of La Romana’s and Casa de Campo’s ladies went wild! Arriving at the gathering I was thrilled to see that everyone (even the waiter) was wearing a hat and that most had actually created or at least modified their hats! There were the flower hats, Adriana’s Mexican-inspired foam sobrero, Alessandra’s Cafe de la Leche hat with mini tea cups and cows, Erika and Thelma’s Hogar del Niño hats and even some showgirl-like fascinators… well as of course the prize-winners – whom I reveal below!

Hip Hat Hoorah!

As an added motivation to dress up, prizes were awarded to the 3 ladies with the best hats – and everyone got involved by voting for their favorite hat/head-dress creation! As you can see from the photos, there were some very impressive hats to choose from, but at the end of the evening the following 3 ladies were announced the winners! Congratulations!

Winner #1: Butterflies Veronica Genatios with her wild white butterflies was awarded a prize – pictured here is Veronica’s hat on top of her prize, being presented by hostess Fefi Salvatierra.  Sadly Veronica had to leave the party early and in all the excitement I didn’t manage to get a photo of her actually wearing the hat!

Winner #2: The Gumball machine! In it to win it! Serial prize winner, Patricia Proaño was awarded a prize for her excellent gum ball machine hat. Patty had originally planned to use an actual mini gumball machine on top of the hat, but when she couldn’t find it, she created the gumball effective with an actual glass bowl and colored beads – thats dedication for you!

Winner #3: The Cafe de la Leche Sombrero Sandra Alvarado, Director of the Hogar del Niño showed her support for the event by creating a very special spring-time bonnet complete with a tin of milk and packets of milk – recreating the essence of the Cafe de la Leche! What a fantastic idea!

As is often the case, the Cafe de la Leche event planned to finish at 7pm, continued for a good while longer, whilst the ladies and their wobbling whimsical head dresses polished off a few more drinks and munched their way through the delicious brownies, cupcakes and other Venezuelan delicacies – created by Adriana’s daughter, Andrea Feaugas, who is in the process of setting up her own catering business. Here are all my photos! About the Cafe de la Leche The Cafe de la Leche is a monthly charitable event, a little like a coffee or a tea party held for the ladies of Casa de Campo (although men are occasionally invited) to boost the milk supplies of the Hogar del Niño – which uses the milk to feed the more than 200 babies cared for daily in it’s crib room. Everyone is welcome to attend this great event, it’s totally free – you are just requested to bring some dried/powdered milk, cereals or baby formula to contribute.
