Confirmed! It is time to be very alert as Tropical Storm Danny continued to increase in intensity yesterday, and today Thursday, August 20th has become the first hurricane of the 2015 Atlantic Hurricane Season (as was predicted)… and although it is still far from the populated areas of the Caribbean, this natural phenomenon is moving at 19 kph with maximum sustained winds of 120kph.
Tropical Storm Danny has now officially developed into Category 1 hurricane as was predicted, and while tropical weather is inherently unpredictable, this is what we know so far:
Hurricane Danny
- Maximum sustained winds = 120kph
- Moving west-northwest at 19kph
- Located 1,090 milles East of the Windward Islands
Predictions
As with all hurricanes how exactly Hurricane Danny will develop and where he will go is unknown, however the following is predicted:
- Some additional strengthening during the next 48 hours
- Slight weakening as Danny encounters high shear and dry air in the eastern Caribbean Sea.
- Danny could be reaching Puerto Rico next Tuesday, August 25th, as a tropical storm.
What does this mean for the Dominican Republic?
So far there is no clear threat to Dominican Republic, but we must keep abreast of the bulletins on the development of this hurricane.
Reason to panic?
Certainly not. But we certainly do need to keep an eye on Huracan Danny.
