UPDATE:
The information in this article is no longer correct. Tropical Storm Isaac has now passed by the Dominican Republic.
Here in Casa de Campo, sports facilities, services and restaurants are reopened with the exception of the Teeth of the Dog golf course – which is currently being clear-up as it was damaged by the storm surge.

UPDATE (Tuesday August 21st): Tropical Depression 9 has now officially developed into Tropical Storm Isaac as was predicted. Aside from now having stronger winds (45mph), very little else about this Tropical Cyclone has changed – it remains on the same path and is still predicted to become a category 1 hurricane as it passes to the South of Puerto Rico on Thursday. And by Friday morning should start to affect the Dominican Republic with strong winds (75mph) and heavy rain.

Late last night, Tropical Depression 9 developed in the Central Atlantic…..predicted to develop into Tropical Storm Isaac quickly (at some point today) and Hurricane Isaac as early as Thursday – and with a predicted path that crosses directly over the Dominican Republic – this is something we need to look out for. Here we bring you the facts.
Tropical Depression 9
• Tropical Depression 9 is currently located to the West of the Lesser Antilles, moving at a speed of 20mph West (towards Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic)
• As a Tropical Depression, this Tropical Cyclone currently has maximum sustained winds of 35mph
• As this Tropical Depression moves westward, it is expected to gather strength and become Tropical Storm Isaac TODAY (Tuesday August 21st).
• Predicted to move North-West, Tropical Depression 9, is predicted to develop into Hurricane Isaac (a category 1 hurricane) by Thursday morning with Maximum sustained winds of 75mph.
• By Friday morning, this Tropical Cyclone is predicted to pass just South of or across the Dominican Republic as (Category 1) Hurricane Isaac, with maximum sustained winds of 90mph.

What does this mean for us in Casa de Campo / the Dominican Republic?
This means that we need to watch and wait. As is always the case with Tropical Cyclones – they are by nature very unpredictable, so Hurricane Isaac may or may not develop and move as predicted. However, whatever does happen – it does seem rather likely that by Friday we will be getting some rather unpleasant weather – certainly a lot of rain and some wind, let’s hope it doesn’t get any worse than that.

Did you know?
• On AVERAGE, a Tropical Cyclone’s actual path differs from it’s predicted path by 200 miles!
• On AVERAGE, a Tropical Cyclone’s actual strength (ie. category) differs from it’s predicted strength by 2 categories!
Which means that with this Tropical Cyclone so far away….there is a possibility that he may not develop and may even take another path – fingers crossed!
