Happy New Year! From the official opening of Christmas in Altos de Chavón on Saturday December the 8th through to the pinnacle of the celebrations – New Years Eve, this “high season” in Casa de Campo has been on all accounts exceptional. Still recovering from all the excitement and excesses of the many occasions here we bring you an overview of all the fun times – with many more photos and coverage still to come!
On Saturday evening the 8th of December 2012, Altos de Chavón and Casa de Campo celebrated the start of the holidays with a magnificent Tree Lighting Ceremony complete with fire works, followed by a joyful Christmas concert by the Juan Pablo Duarte Orchestra and the choir of the National Conservatory of Music, which with a surprise performance from Santa Claus marked this inauguration of Christmas the best yet!
Also celebrated on the same evening in Altos de Chavón was the inauguration of Shine “concept store”, Art presentation – “Stealth Art” by Thimo Pimentel and a cocktail to celebrate the successful completion of “The Power of Illustration Bu$ine$$”, a project by the students of the Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design.
On Wednesday December the 12th 2012, Xiomara Menéndez the founder of the Hogar del Niño charity hosted the most wonderful Café de la Leche gathering at her beautiful oceanside Casa de Campo villa in Bahía Minitas.
On Thursday December 13th 2012, distinguished artist Fernando Varela celebrated the opening of his new exhibition “Fernando Varela Recent Works – Paintings/Drawings” at Paseo del Mar #7 at La Marina, Casa de Campo with the support of Silgon Inc. with Casa de Campo Living and Chivas Regal 18.
This art exhibit will be open until February 28th.
For the first time ever, the Dominican National Ballet performed at the Altos de Chavón amphitheater on Saturday December 15th 2012. “The Colors of the Dance” ballet was a fusion of color and movement – a grand spectacle of dance!
On Thursday December the 2oth, artist Mark Lineweaver, who is also a teacher at the Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design celebrated the opening of his new exhibit “Flora y Fauna” at the Altos de Chavón art gallery amongst a very impressed crowd of Casa de Campo villa owners, residents and visitors as well as of course many enthusiasts from the art loving community of Altos de Chavón.
The 2nd annual Christmas Boat Parade presented by the IBC Shipyard and the Marina Casa de Campo was a glowing and glorious success on Friday December the 21st, 2012. Click here for more photos and the full story!
Saturday the 22nd of December 2012, Casa de Campo villa owners, residents and visitors came together at Genesis in Altos de Chavón in support of the Patronato Benéfico Oriental (umbrella organisation for the Hogar del Niño) at the first ever Disco Christmas Party – a night filled with Christmas spirit and lots of surprises!
On Friday night, December the 28th 2012, well over 5,000 Julio Iglesias fans packed into the Altos de Chavón amphitheater here in Casa de Campo for a magical night with the internationally famous Spanish singer – and were treated to an incredible duet between Iglesias and the President of Haiti, Michel Martelly – a moving union aimed to further strength the bond between the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
On Saturday the 29th of December more than 300 Casa de Campo VIPs gathered at Casa Grande to celebrate the 21st annual Cartier Benefit event hosted by Emilia Fanjul to raise funds for both the Fundación MIR and the Hogar del Niño charities. A total of more than US$125,000 was raised through ticket sales and the auctions – a sum which will be divided evenly between the 2 causes.
Hugh Grant, the internationally famous English actor and film producer visited Casa de Campo this past weekend – during which time he made use of TODO Casa de Campo magazine, the official guide to Casa de Campo produced by Silgon Inc., Marketing, Web Development & Publishing Services to get himself orientated, as well as (we assume) CasaLife magazine, to help get better acquainted with the luxury lifestyle Casa de Campo offers all its guests and villa owners!
On Sunday evening the 30th of December the Altos de Chavón art gallery brimmed with excitement as more than 100 guests eagerly greeted Dr. Mario Vargas Llosa, recipient of the 2010 Nobel Prize in Literature, who was in Casa de Campo in support of the “Tejiendo Futuro” project. A joint venture between the Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design and Women Together, the “Tejiendo Futuro” project has worked with a group of Dominican and Haitian artisans – helping them to create commercially viable products. At the cocktail these goods were showcased following which a dinner for both charities was celebrated outside of the Altos de Chavón Regional Museum of Archeology.
On Monday the 31st of December hundreds of boats and thousands of revellers set sail to local beauty spot Palmilla for a day of dancing and champagne swilling in the glorious Dominican sunshine. Once again Casa de Campo Living took part in the event with a catamaran and alongside many friends welcomed the New Year in true style!

The Marina Casa de Campo is always a popular spot for dinner and drinks and this New Years Eve was no exception as those in the Plaza Portofino were treated to a concert by famous Dominican merenguera Milly Quezada.
As has been the tradition for the last 3 years, following dinner and drinks at private Casa de Campo villas, the La Romana Country Club, Altos de Chavón and the Marina Casa de Campo, the New Years Eve celebrations continued in full force with the Beach Party on Minitas Beach – a party which attracted several thousand party animals and lasted from midnight through to sunrise and beyond!
