The Dominican Republic’s Export and Investment Center (CEI-RD) together with President of the Latino Baseball Hall of Fame and of this project, just announced the progress of  the technical studies for the construction of the ambitious sports and real estate complex; Latino Baseball Town, SRL.

According to the director of CEI-RD, Jean Alain Rodríguez, the huge project, to be built in the area of Benerito, between the Casa de Campo resort and the Punta Cana and Bayahibe areas, will need an approximate investment of between 160 – 180 million dollars.

It was explained that the first phase of the Latino Baseball Town will feature 4 baseball complexes for Major League teams, various real estate opportunities, a shopping area, as well as the “Latino Center Stadium” with a capacity of 24,000 spectators expandable to 40,000 seats.

In the press conference held this week on Wednesday the 8th of January, Rodriguez noted that the study shows the creation of around 1,500 direct and 2,000 indirect jobs in this first phase alone.

Meanwhile, project president Roberto Weill said that the Latino Baseball Town will prepare and develop latino baseball players in the major leagues, as well as incorporate high profitability real estate products, and thus become the most important sports tourism destination in Latin America, making the Dominican Republic the world’s baseball capital.

He also reported that the project will be complemented with villas, apartments, hotels, a state-of-the-art sports medical center, as well as other tourist structures.

Also present during the announcement was Stan Meredith, of DLR Group International, who headed the study, as well as local project manager Claudio Florentino, and Jagadys Abreu, architectural advisor.

Weill also added that the project was submitted to Major League Baseball operational vice president Rob Manfred last December, who was really impressed, stating that the “facilities will place the Dominican Republic with excellent opportunities to compete and become the host for some of the playoffs leading to the 2017 World Classic.”
