Glamor and Fashion on the beach at the Fundación MIR Magical Splendor for Life Gala

Last Friday the 27th of January, the Fundación MIR celebrated it’s 21st annual Magical Splendor for Life Gala and Fashion Show – enjoyed for the 1st time on Casa de Campo’s gorgeous Minitas Beach. With a fun cocktail hour, fashion show by Badgley Mischka, music, dancing and the participation of former Miss Universe, Dayanara Torres and Miss Dominican Republic, Dalia Fernández – it was a night to remember! Beginning at 8pm, guests arrived along a candle-lit pathway through the sand to the Coco Mar beach bar, where a cocktail hour was hosted – a new addition to the annual fundraising event, the cocktail hour, with the opportunity to mingle, “be seen” and relax with a drink was a welcome change.

Principle fundraising attraction in the cocktail hour was the “mysterious Tiffany’s wall”, where generous gentlemen paid £300 per Tiffany’s blue box, for their lady companions – with each box containing a surprise piece of Tiffany’s jewelry. With 75 boxes donated by Tiffany’s, one of the event’s principle sponsors, this simple and fun activity helps the event raise an additional USD$22,500 for the Fundación MIR! Also taking part at the cocktail hour was Ron Atlantico rum, and Grey Goose vodka, both sponsors of the events, who were serving a selection of delicious cocktails.

Next in this series of glamorous events was a seated dinner, catered by the Beach Club by Le Cirque, which included a really fantastic steak and some delicious chocolate mousse and was accompanied by entertainment in the form of speeches from Lian Fanjul de Azqueta, founder and president of the Fundación MIR with daughter, Lyanne Azqueta, director of the foundation, who together with the help of a group of children from the Fundación MIR schools demonstrated their appreciation for everyone’s continued support.

Present at the event for the 3rd time, Badgley Mischka presented a beautiful fashion show featuring their “Spring-Summer 2012” line, as well as a nice selection from their “Resort-wear” collection, with many pieces ideal for the Casa de Campo summer season. Lighting up the runway, was Miss Dominican Republic, Dalía Fernandez, who took part as a special guest model.

Following the fashion came the music and dancing, as the runway was replaced by a dance floor and a live Dominican merengue band took to the stage – spurring the event’s several hundred guests up out of their seats to the dance floor, where they proceeded to dance the night away!

A little later the party moved back to the Coco Bar area, where the welcome cocktail hour had been celebrated and here the festivities continued with more drinks, dancing and tunes by our favorite DJ from Miami – DJ Gringo! Congratulations to the Fundación MIR for once again holding such a wonderful event! The Fundación MIR The Fundación MIR is a non-profit organization which works to provide education to the children of the greater La Romana area, who are most in need.
