Christmas Cafe de la Leche 2015

This Christmas holiday as we’re gifting presents to our children, parents, siblings, friends, and coworkers, let’s remember to share the love with the many organizations who provide for those less fortunate in and around La Romana and help shape the Dominican Republic into a better country for all.

A few weeks ago, we posted articles on donating medicine to the boy’s of Niños de Cristo, in addition to assisting with their Christmas and New Year’s Eve dinners through an English book fair. Reach out to the director of the boy’s orphanage at orfanatondc.varones@gmail.com on how you can still contribute to giving these boys a happy and healthy holiday season.

You can give the gift of education by sponsoring a child at the Fundación MIR. They run 3 schools; the MIR Esperanza (boys vocational school), the Escuela Técnica Vocacional Fundación MIR (girls vocational school) and the Primaria MIR (infants school). With your donation they help provide a home, medical assistance, education and technical preparation for the youth that are most in need in our community.

With over 200 babies and 600 toddlers bathed daily and given clean clothes by the Hogar del Niño, let’s give the gift of milk to their crib rooms, and money for gifts and candy to the over 500 students they educate and care for.

Many students from the Altos de Chavón Cultural Center Foundation have received the life-changing gift of scholarships. Read their moving testimonies online to learn how the gift of creativity and education awards them a bright future for their impeccable talent that could not be realized without your help. If you are interested in sponsoring a student or making a donation to the school, please call the school office at 809-523-8011.

Fundación Corazon a Corazon ask those to donate a new or used toy in very good condition and receive a postcard in return with a picture and thank you from a child. Donations can be dropped off at their two collection centers, Diamond Mall in Santo Domingo (2nd. Level, Local 13B, tel. 809-563-5372) or at the headquarters of the foundation in El Limón provincia de La Altagracia Autopista Del Coral (tel. 809-833-0544).

Maria Walewska Perez, project coordinator of the institution, expressed, “With this campaign we want to appeal not only to the natural sensitivity of this beautiful time of year, but also to reveal to Dominican society the work we do daily with these children from impoverished regions. Our wish this Christmas is that each of our children receive a toy  and are given a very special Christmas for which all children are entitled.”

Last but not least, as we cherish our pets this holiday season, perhaps having our dogs parade around in reindeer antlers or elf sweaters with jingles, let’s think of the many dogs throughout the Dominican Republic without a home or nurturing family. Give a bag of food for the puppies at Collares Rojos, and make this holiday season special for not just our families but our furry friends too.
