On Thursday the 24th of February, Gino’s the new pizza and pasta restaurant opened it’s doors to a very excited Casa de Campo public for the first time! Previously Cafe del Sol, one of Casa de Campo’s most loved and missed restaurants, we are hoping that Gino’s will fill the void, which the closure of Cafe del Sol left and bring a new lease of life to Altos de Chavón’s dining scene and from what we have tasted and seen – it has certainly gotten off to a good start! The first opening of Gino’s took place on Thursday evening the 24th of February, the same evening as the book signing by James Bradley at the Casa de Campo villa of Phyllis Berney, so after a very inspiration evening with James and Phyllis raising money for the Hogar del Niño Scholarship fund, Philip, myself and a number of other of Phyllis’ guests headed up to Altos de Chavón in hunt of pizza and pasta! When we arrived, we were surprised to find more of a ‘party’ atmosphere than a dining one, with guests standing around enjoying Gino’s delicious red house wine and tasting a seemingly never-ending stream of food; different types of pizza, pasta, appetizers and even deserts were continuously being brought out of the kitchen and devoured by the guests.
Claudio Angeloni, whose family have owned and successfully ran the Gino’s franchise of Italian restaurants in Italy and around the world for more than 100 years, serves up the pasta!
The food was excellent, the wine was smooth and easy to drink (not great for my hangover) and the atmosphere was relaxed, friendly and fun! It was a great night! Let’s hope that Gino’s will keep producing good quality food – I wouldn’t mind becoming a regular customer at Gino’s for a weekly pasta or pizza…… Gino’s is open daily in Altos de Chavón: 11am-3pm and 6.30pm-late! Here are my photos from their first opening night on Thursday. [Gino’s also hosted a second opening night on Friday the 25th of February – and my photos from this evening will be published soon!]
