Every year in January, Fundación MIR hosts two very popular events to kick off the year’s events. On Saturday January 14th, the Casa de Campo community and many visitors were able to enjoy a day of golf, a spectacular fashion show by none other than Naeem Khan, and a dinner and dance gala all to benefit the children of La Romana.
The Golf Tournament took place Saturday in La Romana Country Club. Upon arrival, the players were greeted by the staff of the Fundación MIR where they were handed a goody bag and this year’s event polo shirt. Then, they all had the opportunity to practice their swings and putts before starting the tournament. Mrs. Lian Fanjul de Azqueta, founder and president of the Fundación MIR, along with Johnny Fanjul director of the Country Club and Dave Pfiester, who is in charge of the golf department at the Country Club, welcomed everyone. There was even a small “pop-up shop” headed by Lyanne Azqueta’s daughter selling handmade crafts and juice.
Played in a “scramble” format, the tournament’s golfers worked together in teams of 4 to achieve the lowest score. As is customary in Casa de Campo tournaments, golfers were treated to a variety of refreshments around the 18 holes, including Ron Atlántico and Chivas whiskey. A clear blue sky made the day an absolutely beautiful one for golf, and afforded everyone a wonderful time in the name of a good cause.
The Fundación MIR Magical Splendor for Life Golf Tournament – Results Although golfers always say they are playing ‘just for fun’, everyone wants to win really, so for the glory of the winners here are the results: 1st place with a score of 54.6The golf tournament awards ceremony took place in the gala in Casa Grande, where the winners were presented their prizes. The annual Fundación MIR Magical Splendor for Life hosted by Alfy and Raysa Fanjul was spectacular with beautiful designs, and a “Mystery Wall” where the guests were able to shop and proceeds contributed to the foundation.
