When it comes to raising money for the more than 1200 children of the Fundación MIR schools in La Romana, the MIR Magical Splendor for Life is the most glamorous of them all.
Celebrated this past Saturday the 18th of January with a golf tournament, dinner-dance and a fashion show presented by Venezuelan designer Ángel Sánchez, the annual Fundación MIR Magical Splendor for Life hosted by Alfy and Raysa Fanjul was spectacular.
From midday on Saturday, more than 100 Casa de Campo golfers flocked to the La Romana Country Club golf course where they were greeted by the cheerful Fundación MIR team, among them Lian Fanjul de Azqueta, founder and president of the cause, and her daughter Lyanne Azqueta, vice-president of the Fundación MIR, who were very happy to welcome so many supporters to the annual event.
Always efficient, the Casa de Campo golf department got the tournament off to a punctual start and the many golfers, including Alfy Fanjul, host of the evening gala, teed off at 1pm. As is customary at Casa de Campo golf tournaments, the golfers were treated to a variety of refreshments around the 18 holes, including mojitos by Ron Atlantico and Chivas 18 on the rocks – conveniently located at hole #18.
In the evening, it was the turn of the ladies to shine. Dressed in an assortment of beautiful gowns, Casa de Campo’s ladies glittered in true style for the dinner-dance gala and fashion show by Ángel Sánchez. Welcomed along a candlelit pathway, and greeted by the smiling faces of the children of the Fundación MIR, the evening began with cocktails – including Ron Atlantico and Chivas whiskey – before dinner was served at tables flanking the runway.
Every year better and better, the Ángel Sánchez fashion show was mesmerising, with a predominant monochrome theme, the gowns were elegant and simple, yet sophisticated and unique, and the addition of just a handful of Ángel Sánchez’s famous wedding dresses at the end, it could not have been more perfect.
The evening ended with dancing, dancing and more dancing. We were once again thrilled to have our favorite Miami based DJ with us – DJ Gringo – who, as always, got us in such a good party mood, that we even finished the celebrations at Onno’s Bar in Altos de Chavón.
Oh what a night! Our congratulations to Alfy and Raysa Fanjul, Lian Fanjul de Azqueta, Lyanne Azqueta and the entire Fundación MIR team.
Many more photos from both the Fundación MIR gala-dinner and the golf tournament coming soon.
