After two difficult years for everyone, we were able to once again enjoy two very popular Fundación MIR events. On Saturday, March 26th, the Casa de Campo community, and many visitors were able to enjoy a day of golf, a spectacular fashion show by none other than Naeem Khan, and a dinner and dance gala all to benefit the children of La Romana. Each year, Lian Fanjul de Azqueta, her daughter Lyanne Azqueta and the whole Fundación MIR team do an incredible job putting together this tournament and raising money for education for hundreds of children in La Romana.
The Golf Tournament took place in La Romana Country Club. Upon arrival, the players were greeted by the staff of the Fundación MIR and then, they all had the opportunity to practice their swings and putts before starting the tournament. Mrs. Lian Fanjul de Azqueta, founder and president of the Fundación MIR, was also present and welcomed everyone again and thanked them for their continued support. During the tournament, the players also received numerous goodies and treats thanks to the event sponsors.
The Fundación MIR Golf Tournament is played “Scramble” style, with teams working together to obtain the lowest score on each hole together. Each teammate hits a drive and then the best of the four balls is then played. The teamwork style of scramble tournaments keeps the game fun and more community-focused than individual score-driven. It is the perfect style of the tournament for fundraisers, keeping the energy all about teamwork and the community!
The tournament may be more about putting the FUN into fundraising, but the competition was still in the air! Below are the results of the 2022 Fundación MIR’s Annual Magical Splendor Golf Tournament!

The Fundación MIR is a non-profit organization which works to provide education to the children of the greater La Romana area, who are most in need. They run 3 schools; the MIR Esperanza (boys vocational school), the Escuela Técnica Vocacional Fundación MIR (girls vocational school) and the Primaria MIR (infants school).
