On Saturday August 13th, the Teeth of the Dog golf course in Casa de Campo was full of life, with over 100 players participating in the Fundación MIR Family Weekend for Life golf tournament.
The golf tournament was part of the annual Fundación MIR Family Weekend for Life event, which also included a tennis tournament and tennis clinic for children as well as a dinner-dance gala on Minitas Beach. During the gala, all winners were presented their awards and they enjoyed the catchy tunes of Orquesta Dekadas, followed by an afterparty with DJ Gringo under the starry sky. The golf tournament, played in a scramble format was expertly managed by the Casa de Campo golf department, and included additional prizes for the longest drive and closest to the pin. Although not competing in the tournament herself, Lian Fanjul de Azqueta, President and Founder of the Fundación MIR, was present to officially kick off the tournament and personally welcome and thank all of the participants.
As is customary for golf tournaments in Casa de Campo, golfers were treated to a variety of refreshments around the 18 holes, including Ron Atlántico and Chivas whiskey! Although the competition was fierce, when we asked players how the golfing day went, unanimously they said FUN! Everyone had a blast out on the course which makes it even better is that it is for a great cause — raising funds for the Fundación MIR’s three schools that support the children of La Romana. Tennis enthusiasts come together at La Terraza for the Fundación MIR Family Weekend for Life
The Fundación MIR Family Weekend for Life celebrated many events this past weekend and kicked off on Friday with a welcome party at Genesis Nightclub with DJ Gringo. A warm and early start to the annual sports tournaments came at 9 am on August 13th as tennis players gathered at the La Terraza tennis club in Casa de Campo all for a great cause. The Fundación MIR
The Fundación MIR is a non-profit organization which works to provide education to the children of the greater La Romana area, who are most in need. They run 3 schools; the MIR Esperanza (boys vocational school), the Escuela Técnica Vocacional Fundación MIR (girls vocational school) and the Primaria MIR (infants school).
