On Saturday, August 19th, the Fundación MIR hosted their annual fundraising weekend “Family Weekend for Life” – with a kid’s tennis clinic and golf tournament played at the La Romana Country Club, as well as a lively dinner-gala at Minitas Beach.
It is no secret that here in Casa we love golf! Proof of this was the over 90 players who participated in this event who teed off at 1 pm around the La Romana Country Club for the beautiful cause that the Fundación MIR stands for. Money raised meant that this week the Fundación MIR was able to send more than 1,700 students from the local La Romana area to school and receive a wonderful education. Most importantly, it meant they are a part of a second family who wants them to grow, prosper, and succeed in society.
The tournament was played in a 4-player Scramble format which was great. Playing alone is nice and gives you time to reflect or unwind, but playing in a group is fantastic! We heard from one of the players that he didn’t know his fellow group members beforehand but he absolutely loved going around the course with them! They celebrated the good and the bad shots, and shared numerous laughs – this is definitely what it’s all about, enjoying a great time with friends old and new while supporting the Fundación MIR.
We saw many familiar faces having a great time at the tournament, and even though the day had been threatened by rain, the skies remained clear for the majority to finish without a drop. As is customary for golf tournaments in Casa de Campo, golfers were treated to a variety of refreshments around the 18 holes, including Ron Atlántico and Chivas whiskey. Prizes were awarded to the various winners, and included recognitions for the longest drive and closest to the pin at the dinner and awards ceremony that followed that evening – stay tuned for our coverage!
See the results below, and congratulations to winners: Francesco Caltagirone, Valentina Caltagirone, Sergio Arnaboldi, and Luciana Catti with a total of 53.9 points and special thanks to all who participated in the Fundación MIR Family Weekend golf tournament!
