On Saturday January 17th 2015, the Fundación MIR celebrated it’s 25th anniversary with what was their best ever Magical Splendor gala, fashion show and golf tournament.
A magical night indeed, a celebration of the many years of giving to all the children in Fundación MIR. This year’s Magical Splendor Gala hosted by Alfy and Raysa Fanjul was the best, starting the day off with a golf tournament that had more golfers than ever, followed by the dinner-dance and a majestic presentation of Badgley Mischka’s Spring Summer RTW 2015 collection. It was a great success!
Even though this year’s tournament started with a little rain, it had more golfers than ever before, Alfy Fanjul himself, host of the evening gala, was amongst the players once again, and as is customary at Casa de Campo golf tournaments, the golfers were treated to a variety of refreshments around the 18 holes, including Ron Atlántico and Chivas whiskey. It was a great way to start the day, with so many supporters who later received their prizes from the runway at the gala,
Arriving to the gala at Casa Grande, guests were greeted with a chorus of “Buenas Noches” by the smiling faces of the children of the Fundación MIR, following which the evening was officially started by Pamela Sued who thanked the guests for their collaboration to the cause year in year out, and to the Fundación MIR for their selfless work. Pamela also announced the silent auction of the Bremont & Chivas “Chivalry” watch, one of 12 unique timepieces donated by Chivas to the MIR, which we got to know at a cocktail party hosted earlier that same week (click here for photos).
Among the many wonders of the night was the presentation of Saks Fifth Avenue featuring Roberto Coin jewellery. A display so stunning, that by the time the night started there were only 17 “Mystery Boxes” left… and those sold out very fast! With gifts such as a Channel purse, Gucci sunglasses and Roberto Coin jewellery, all the lucky lady owners of the “Mystery Boxes” were more than happy with their surprise presents.
Before enjoying the delicious dinner, the winners of the tournament were announced and we heard a few words from a proud Fundación MIR graduate. Every year dentistry students from Columbia University of New York come to Fundación MIR to look after their smiles, the result of which has been that all the children of the Fundacion MIR have improved their dental hygiene, and have also taught their family to improve theirs as well. Inspired by this, a Fundación MIR graduate, who having decided to study dentistry, shared a few words with the gathered crowd. “For me it is a great honor to be part of the Fundación MIR family. To hear the name of Fundación MIR for me is no more or less than a synonym of well-rounded education, since Fundación MIR is an institution that works day after day to educate boys and girls of limited resources toward the right level of education. After successfully finishing high school with a technical in vocational nursing (thanks to the Fundación MIR), I started studying dentistry at Universidad Central del Este, and that is thanks to your support and collaboration to this noble cause of Fundación MIR,” she said.
Meanwhile the fashion show was Badgley Mischka’s Spring Summer Ready-to-Wear 2015, a collection first presented to commemorate the designers’ 25 years. The embroidered gowns in featherlight organza and gazar that represented the duo’s “Marie Antoinette on the moon,” were breathtakingly gorgeous. In addition gowns inspired by “60s French science fiction films” were lightweight and timeless. The show astounded us all.
From the fashion show the evening effortlessly melted into music and dancing with a live band, and later Dj Gringo, our favourite Miami based DJ.
Our congratulations to Alfy and Raysa Fanjul, Lian Fanjul de Azqueta, Lyanne Azqueta and the entire Fundación MIR team for outdoing themselves each year, this was definitely a night to remember.
Many more photos from both the Fundación MIR gala-dinner and the golf tournament coming soon.
