It was a weekend full of extreme emotions and overall enjoyment, where the participants, including renowned entrepreneurs and fishing enthusiasts, displayed their talents in the sport and their desire to help those in need.

The prize-giving activity took place on Saturday night with music from the Chabelly group, and entertainment by “The Show”, official magazine of America Cruise Ferries as well as special guest Miguel “Freskoman” Febles.

The President of the Ferries del Caribe Foundation (FFDC) and event organizer, Nestor Gonzalez Romero, said that donations and sponsorships gathered during the event, will be destined to build a new school for the children of the Albergue Nacional para Impedidos Físicos (National Hostel for Physically Handicapped Youths), in the Sabana Perdida neighbourhood of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.

Special-needs children will benefit from the monies raised with the event

About 5 years ago the Ferries del Caribe Foundation started to support the efforts of Albergue Nacional para Impedidos Físicos (National Hostel for Physically Handicapped Youths.) However despite their efforts, children are cared for in a small wooden house with no appropriate facilities – which is why the Ferries del Caribe Foundation are working to open a school for them. “We have already acquired land for the construction of the school, we have the plans by 80%, we are now preparing the ground to begin construction of the school, we hope to finish in the next two years,” said Nestor Gonzalez.

“The new facilities, not only improve the quality of life of the 84 children currently being treated at the hostel, but also double the number of children who will benefit because the new school will be able to care for 150 children. We are very excited to be able to continue improving the quality of life of many people,” said Maribel More, Vice President of the  Ferries del Caribe Foundation.

The Puerto Rican group “Exotic Cars” exhibited their vehicles and made a contribution to the Foundation, to become official “friends” of the foundation. Other fundraising activities included the auction of a work art from the artist Dionisio Blanco, as well as a raffle including an Ulysse Nardin watch, valued at  US$7,800.
