This coming Sunday the 30th of December 2012, the Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design Foundation and Women Together invite you to a co-hosted event in aid of both charities – a dinner and fashion show; “Tejiendo Futuro” to take place on the main plaza in Altos de Chavón.
UPDATE: Before the fashion show and dinner, there will be a complimentary cocktail open to the public with a presentation by Dr. Mario Vargas Llosa – recipient of the 2010 Nobel Prize in Literature from 6pm – 8pm at the Altos de Chavón art gallery.
The Women Together charitable foundation works with the UN to eradicate poverty – by developing and promoting local arts and crafts in undeveloped countries, essentially training local artisans to effectively commercialise their products and help bring them to a much larger audience. Meanwhile the Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design’s mission is to provide art and design education to talented and qualified artists – despite any economic constraints they may have, their sponsorship program is completely underwritten by donations, giving budding artists the opportunity to reach their full potential. This event will not only raise money for both causes – but will also showcase the work done by both.
Artisans at work
Over the last 6 months, Women Together and the Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design have worked together with a group of Dominican and Haitian artisans – helping them to create commercially viable products. During the fashion show these new products and designs will be showcased. Sharing the runway with the artisans will be the designs of the Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design fashion students – who will be presenting their “recycled” collection, beautiful dresses made entirely from recycled products, a collection which was recently on display at the Marina Casa de Campo Fashion Show.
The dinner and fashion show (US$150) will begin at 7pm with a welcome cocktail, followed by dinner and the fashion show – all in the magnificent main plaza in Altos de Chavón. A superb event for an excellent cause! We hope to see you all there.
Also raising money for both the Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design and Women Together is a fashion and accessories boutique which will be “popping-up” and open in the Altos de Chavón art gallery from December 27th. On sale you will find the very best European Luxury Brands (Moschino, Cheap & Chic by Moschino, Velentino, Roberto Cavalli, Dsquared, Alberto Ferreti etc) represented by Casa Bizanco Colombia, as well as the work of the local artisans – to be showcased at the “Tejiendo Futuro” dinner and fashion show.
