Dayanara Torres, a Puerto Rican actress, singer, model, and former Miss Universe visited the Casa de Campo resort in January as the Mistress of Ceremonies for the Fundación MIR’s Magical Splendor for Life Gala and Fashion Show and as well as enjoying the beautiful resort, she also took the time to visit the Fundación MIR’s schools.
Dayanara’s visit to the Fundación MIR schools in La Romana town took place on Friday the 27th of January 2012, the day of the Magical Splendor for Life event, being celebrated to raise money for those same schools.
Miss Dominican Republic, Dalia Fernández also visited the Fundación MIR schools – click here for PHOTOS and the full story!
On her tour, Dayanara visited all 3 schools ran by the Fundacion MIR, non-profit organization; the MIR Esperanza (boys vocational school), the Escuela Tecnica Vocacional Fundación MIR (girls vocational school) and the Primaria MIR (infants school), where she met, posed for photos with and signed autographs for the many very excited children.
The Mechanical School at the MIR Esperanza in La Romana
At the MIR Esperanza (boys vocational school), the former Miss Universe, Dayanara made a stop at the Mechanical School, which was inaugurated just last April, with the first refrigeration, electrics and mechanical classes starting in September 2011. The new MIR Mechanical school was built and equipped for the Fundación MIR by Autopista de Coral and Odebrecht, who are the Brazilian company responsible for building the new highway from Santo Domingo to Punta Cana (via La Romana), which we hope will be finished this year.
Also at the MIR Esperanza, Dayanara visited the brand new cooking facility, opened in September 2011 – where seniors from both the boy’s and girl’s schools study gastronomy. This facility was completed thanks to a generous donations of USD$18,000 from the Citi Foundation, which allowed for not only the building of the facility, but also full scholarships of the students including books, equipment and even uniforms.
Possibly Dayanara’s favorite part of the tour was the visit to the “Primaria MIR”, which opened in 2010 right next to MIR Esperanza (boys school) with little ones from age 5 to 10 who study in classes of no more than 10 students – ensuring an outstanding level of education.
