A celebrity packed weekend was exactly what was in store for the crowds of people that filled the Casa de Campo resort over the holiday weekend. With a dual concert by Enrique Iglesias and Gente de Zona, we knew we were going to be in for a good show, we just didn’t know how good. Gente de Zona took the stage a little after 9 p.m. Friday night and opened with Cuban reggaeton rhythms that incited the full stadium to their feet. They played top hits from their 2016 Visualízate album like “Algo Contigo” and “Qué Tú Quieres”, and were joined early on by a surprise appearance from Marc Anthony!  Gente de Zona, Marc Anthony Their collaboration “La Gozadera” with Marc Anthony not only earned tropical song of the year at the 2016 Billboard Latin Music Awards, it was one of the biggest highlights from Casa de Campo resort’s holiday concert. Almost sold out, everyone in Altos de Chavón’s amphitheater sang and danced to their addictive lyrics. After a short recess, Enrique Iglesias came on stealing the crowd’s love and attention with all time favorites like “I’m a Freak”, “Tonight”, and “I Like It”. Smoke blew from the stage at peak intervals of Enrique’s lyrics, and the energetic artist traveled the whole stage greeting fans from everyone corner. At one point, he even mounted a metal lighting fixture to stretch out his arm and reach a young girl in the crowd. True to character, Enrique Iglesias made ladies at the front stage swoon as he kneeled down closely to the edge and sang directly into them. “He was close enough to kiss!” I heard one enamored fan remark after the show. The song stayed for 41 weeks at the top of the Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart, making Enrique the longest-running ever artist to be on the chart, and for the most No.1 hits overall. Fans cheered as confetti blasted from the stage and rained down, along with giant “ei” balloons audience members happily tossed among the crowd. No one wanted the show to end, and it was only when fireworks erupted over the Chavón amphitheater that the crowd’s attention diverted to the sky in celebration of the new year. A superb concert to end 2016!!
